OWN YOUR
STORY.

Being a group of survivors ourselves, we’ve found that there are two paths you can go down when dealing with cancer – you can own your story, or you can let your story own you. One path helps you move forward, the other keeps you stuck. To paraphrase one of our patients during some of our research – there’s a difference between keeping something private and keeping something a secret. Keeping something private means that you don’t necessarily talk about it all the time, but it’s something you feel comfortable talking about if you want to. Keeping something a secret on the other hand is something that you bottle up, and can eat away at you over time. You don’t have to share your story with us, but we encourage you to talk about it with someone – be it your family, friends, spouses, or the incredible psycho-oncology resources available through your healthcare provider.

SHARE YOUR CANCER STORY

Cancer is filled with moments that are happy, sad, crazy, silly, stupid, beautiful, weird, and many others that can’t really be put into words. With testicular cancer, these things can happen on an accelerated timeline as it is one of the fastest treated cancers amongst all cancers. We want to acknowledge the ridiculousness the journey can take, and have a few laughs at cancer’s expense. Sharing your personal cancer story can be an emotional experience, but it can also be a huge help for others to tackle their journeys, and is a great step towards owning your own story. Here are some quick notes that you might want to know about sharing your cancer story:

  • We keep your identity, and any of your guests anonymous at all times
  • It’s your story – if we record the episode and you find you’re uncomfortable with having it posted – that’s okay! You can keep it for personal consumption, or it can be deleted altogether. You can also change your mind after
the episode is posted as well
  • The details of your story are highlighted in the episode description for other patients to find a journey that resembles theirs
  • You get the choose a celebrity guest to read out the mid-episode ball check (provided they agree of course)
